Autonomous weed removal
These days there are many new methods to protect and grow crops in a sustainable way. For example, many new techniques are available in which agricultural equipment is self-driving. Now weeding can also be done with robots. Because of labour shortages there has been a big need for this type of autonomous weeding.
Andela Technique and Innovation is currently developing an autonomous weeder with the help of European funds. The robot independently scans the land to determine exactly where weeds are growing amidst the crop. The robot uses its robotic arm to remove the weed all the way down to the roots, neutralizing the plant and preventing further growth. This is good news for the environment because it ensures that no (chemical) pesticides are needed and it also happens to be CO2 neutral!
